Representative Wilson says he apologized for merely interrupting the President.

My statement to Rahm Emanuel was a general apology to anyone and everyone about speaking out of turn. Period.

Really?  If you raise your hand next time, we’ll forgive the fact that you called the President of the United State “a liar” and trampled all over the truth.

A variety of sources have proved Wilson’s unequivocal lie.  H.R. 3200 does not include health care for illegal immigrants:

H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

Yet Wilson continues to assert illegal immigrants will be covered.  Is Wilson misinformed? Does he understand only what he wants to understand?  I reject the cynicism that all politicians are crooks.  Exaggeration is inherent in political debate.  It’s an art form.  It’s also common in boardrooms, at dinner tables and in bars.  Rational people have a sense for when an argument is waged unfairly. We have a sense for when exaggeration goes too far.  It’s called distortion and eventually, dishonesty.

A half truth is a whole lie.

~Yiddish Proverb

Normative values and social standards influence the rise and fall of corporate corruption over time.  The same is true for the rules of political engagement.  The neglect and subjugation of facts, empirical evidence and independent thought corrodes our political discussions.  In an increasingly complex world, our collective expectations for truthfulness and comity in American politics have reached dangerously low levels.

  1. These people are so uninformed that they scare me. Would they have responded the same if he was talking about a real liar (Bush)? Not likely.

  2. Obama says there’s no death panels, but death by bureaucrat care-denial is there.

He says there’s no additional spending, but its there according to non-partisan CBO.

He says there’s no one will lose their current health care because of his public option but they will when it drains the private market with unfairly priced government competition.

And he says no illegal immigrants will be covered, but there’s no verification to stop that from happening.

Is there specific language saying any of these are allowed? No.

But only an irrational person will say you are telling the truth when you can see the practical outcome is exactly the opposite.

That is why Obama was called a Liar.

How could someone come to this site, watch the vids read the info and still push the idea that Obama is lying. . . simple, because they are shills, conservative foot soldiers , whose job it is to do so or you are in such a state of mindless fear of change, that you would defend the very enemies of society that will ultimately hurt them and those they care about.

  4. Blackjed47jedite, they are in a state of mindless fear of change yet as usual the root of all the evil is money. The small group of Elite people with DUMB money, wealth beyond our imagination, stand to lose money and control and they’re literally mad. They truly don’t care about the Average Joes, and while we express our opinions on the web, they continue to screw and scare people so they can continue to make dumb money. Most Americans and “Average Joes” are ignorant to all of this and argue over crafty lies and distractions that don’t even matter. It’s evil and so sad that at the present time they want the conservative foot soldiers to wear offensive t-shirts. The elite members are the true terrorists, and sadly the majority of Americans are the fools. The good news is God takes care of babies and fools.

Philosopher, you seem to be coming from a state of F.E.A.R. (False Expectations Appearing Real) and what you present here is not a fact. In all actuality, the CBO’s letter to Senator Judd Gregg is a basic ASSUMPTION. I think we all know the saying, “when you assume, you make and ASS out of you and me”. Don’t allow them to scare you folks. Also, Obama’s healthcare reform plan would indeed create more jobs, especially in the field of Naturopathic medicine. Millions of Americans would love to see a Naturopath or Alternative healthcare practitioner. People are becoming more and more interested are they’re studying to get into various careers in this field. It’s not taking them 4 to 8 years of college either. Don’t you think the pharmaceutical and insurance companies, colleges and universities stand to lose DUMB money because right now, getting into the Alternative healthcare field is fairly easy and less expensive compared to what is required for a career in the Medicine and health industry. People will have better options and receive better healthcare. As a result people will be healthier when they began to take a Holistic and spiritual approach to their health. So, there you have it. That’s a problem for a small group of people. It’s not about illegal aliens and all those other bogus claims, yet what a fool believes is written all over palmettoscoop.com and it’s a shame how they’re willing to fight so hard against President Obama’s healthcare reform plan when the Elite people with dumb money could really care less if they live or die. As a matter of fact, their demise and death is good for business.

  5. The reasoning behind his screaming is that there is no enforcement of 3200. What the Republicans want is a trap door in emergency rooms, so that if a Mexican comes in, the trap door can be triggered and the Mexican will fall to his certain doom in a tank full of sharks with used needles strapped to their heads.

  6. Why should’nt valid ID be required to recieve healthcare be required? Emergency care should always be available to those in need but being able to access a national healthcare system without having to prove you are eligable is absurd.
Many fiscal conservatives like me do want a change in the healthcare system but we don’t trust the govt. to do it right. Calling us racists or idiots when we voice reasonable concerns means a potential alley for health reform was lost.
Rep. Joe Wilson was wrong in what he did it was disrespectful and to me personally very disappointing,

    • Dan,

Thank you for your comment. I agree that calling entire groups of people racists and irrational is neither fair nor helpful. I think you’ll find several other AOR posts that call for more civility and less debate about divisive distractions (e.g. health care death panels, government subsidized abortion, health care for illegal immigrants, the President’s indoctrination of schoolchildren, socialism, etc).

Regarding verification. On the surface, there is nothing wrong with it.

The reality is that illegal immigrants are here. They already occupy jobs where employers do not verify their legal status. In some cases, they may already receive employer sponsored health care and they are currently allowed to purchase private insurance. No one is proposing additional government sponsored or subsidized health coverage for illegal immigrants.

There is a cost to verification. A review of six state Medicaid programs in 2007 found that verification rules had cost the federal government an additional $8.3 million. They caught exactly eight illegal immigrants.

What about public health considerations? What about the infection risks if illegal immigrants with swine flu go untreated? Will they even seek treatment?

This is not to say that verification should be ignored. This is to say that a fair cost benefit analysis must inform this policy debate rather than emotional histrionics about illegal immigrants.

We should address our immigration policy outside of health reform.

Thank you again for your comment.

  7. There really is only one word to describe these people – IDIOTS.

  8. Wilson lied that Obama lied?
    How odd.
Obama said “Illegal immigrants would not be covered.”
What the proposed legislation says is “Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.”
Is that supposed to mean the same thing?
Not when I went to school. What is prohibited does not read ‘nothing in this…shall allow….’, indeed it would say something like ‘…this forbids … under penalty of….’ for example.
The means to accomplish what Obama says does not exist in the proposal, what existing laws say is perhaps open to interpretation by some perhaps, but basically enables the very thing Obama’s words deny.
Wilson did not lie. Obama lied.
Why he called out the liar is not as important as the lie. He called him a liar to his face. In public.
Will he be sued from slander? not on your life.
I couldn’t care less why the liar lied, any more than I care what some moron thinks his opinion is worth.
And this, no more than all the other lies, does not distract from the fact that this proposal, like many others. in all its parts is unconstitution and unworkable.
    Socialism is a self-limiting affliction.

  9. Never tell the truth, it may kill you.

The Emperor has no clothes on!” said the idiot. The media mob shouted “Kill the idiot!” The Emperor said “Wait.” He then spoke to the idiot. “You are a Nobody. Nobody is Perfect. Therefore you are Perfect.” The media mob swooned for the Emperor. The idiot then removed all his clothes and was killed by the media mob for baring all.
